Stains - How to remove a stain from a sofa?

Strade Furniture | Sep 19, 2021

Stains are the bane of our beds, sofas, armchairs and carpets. For example, red wine is much easier to remove from metal or wooden surfaces. There are many people and the same number of ways how to get rid of stains. However, it is worth remembering that not all of these options may work. Often, inadequate cleaning can even make the whole thing worse. This happens when you follow advice that is very general, vague. This is because people do not necessarily take into account the types of stains.

The materials of sofas as well as armchairs are different, and treating them with unsuitable detergents and liquids can ultimately damage our furniture. Moreover, in a crisis situation, we often panic and look for a quick fix. The first one to show up in a search engine may not be so effective. To help you in this unequal battle against stains, we have created this post so that when a stain appears, you will know what to do. Below are various more and less effective ways to remove stains from a variety of materials. Good luck!

Stains - different ways to remove

Grey soap

This may seem absurd, but it is one of the most effective ways. Just soak the soap and the spot of dirt with water and start scrubbing. After some time of scrubbing, the unwanted guest should start to disappear. When you notice that the stains are fading, soak the sofa once more to remove the soap residue.

Heavy soiling - baking soda

Another popular guest in our list. Soda should be mixed with water and lemon juice (one liter of water, juice of one lemon, one tablespoon of soda). Then, you should apply the mixture on the stain. This suggestion is dedicated to resistant but not greasy stains. After eliminating the visibility of our problem, you should dampen the place with water. Wait for it to dry and voilà - we have it!

Oily stains - potato or corn flour

This is a great way to do it, but it only works as soon as the stain is on. So, on fresh greasy stains, apply flour so that it covers the whole thing. Wait for about half an hour - maybe a little less - then use a wet cloth to remove the powder from your sofa. Finally, spray the whole place with detergent and wipe it off. However, remember that this only works if the stain is recent.

Detergents/washing powders

In case of stains from coffee, tea or other such stains, detergents work perfectly. It is enough to moisten the place where the unfortunate drink spilled and after a while put the detergent or such amount of washing powder on it that will cover the whole stain. In this case, we recommend betting on "the more, the better" and keep it there for as many hours as possible. When you decide to get rid of the liquid or powder, we recommend doing it with a wet cloth.

Removing the stain with a shampoo

The possibilities presented above were suggestions in crisis situations. When we do not have access to special preparations. However, it is worth mentioning the known solutions. Companies with washing products more and more often come up to our problems. One of such solutions is shampoo for sofas. It is a quick and great way to get rid of all kinds of stains. Options quite similar, which are also easy to use, are stain removers for carpets and upholstery. We hope we have been able to help. However, we wish you to face as little as possible with stain removal.
